Toxin at work – a movie that illustrates exotoxin A attacking a ribosome

This is a movie that shows the reaction of the P. aeruginosa toxin with a ribosomal protein, elongation factor 2, found in human cells.  The toxin attaches a molecule to the elongation factor which prevents it from working properly and this kills the human host cell.

It was made by a former postdoc in the lab, Rene Jorgensen.

The antivirulence compounds we are researching would allow us to disarm bacteria so that they cannont use their toxins to attack our cells.
